Stopping in for lunch, I was determined to have tacos but undecided as to what kind. I decided that the soft shell chicken tacos were a sure bet, and I was right. The chunks of chicken were fresh and delectable, and the addition of green pepper and chipotle sauces made the tacos even better. (A+ to A++?). I can't pinpoint precisely what it was about the rice here that impressed me so much more than the rice at other Mexican eateries. Not just the preparation, but the seasoning. It was an active participant in the plate, as opposed to being passive and passable. Afterwards I felt like going to the beach and being totally lazy. So that's what I did.

Braised short ribs nachos...AWESOME! My husband ordered the seafood enchilada and said it was amazing. My son ordered the biggie piggie and said it was great. I can't remember the name of mine but it was chicken, shrimp and mushrooms over cilantro lime rice...delicious! Chase was our waiter and was so friendly and accommodating with my silly boys!

Not pretty but good food and drink. Quick service. Appears to be loved by locals, so that is good enough for me!

I'd describe this place as squarely mediocre. First off, it's a Mexican restaurant, so it's almost impossible to mess up the food. Mexican food is just delicious in general. However, they managed to make mediocre Mexican food here. We were literally joking that the refried bean taco salad tasted like an ashtray. I didn't believe it before tasting, but it tasted like Ron Burgundy's 1970s newsroom. 100% Grade A ashtray. The burrito was alright. I was told portion sizes were LARGE!?! Unfortunately not true. Larger than a Panera Bread but normal compared to other Mexican restaurants. Prices were middle of the road for Ocean City. A burrito doesn't normally cost $13 at a Mexican restaurant. But in Ocean City getting a meal for under $15 is impressive. So this is...good...I guess... One thing that really torques me. There are no prices on the drink menu. This should bother you...a lot. The restaurant is trying to screw you based on two key facts: 1. You really want a tasty alcoholic drink. Yum! 2. You don't want to look like a tightwad in front of your friends, and hence you won't ask the awkward question of questions. "What are the individual prices of the 23 different drinks on this menu?" So instead you play "high roller", throw caution to the wind, order a drink, then lightly curse under your breathe when the check comes. ...Making sure to pay the tab with a straight face, lest your whole table realize you don't actually enjoy paying $7-$25 per-drink from your giant pile of gold coins you swim in like Scrooge McDuck. This no-prices-on-the-drink-menu is insulting. The establishment is basically calling their patrons idiots. Real Mexican restaurants list prices on their drink menus. And the prices are usually awesome. And the drinks usually get you super-Mexican-restaurant-drunk. It's a whole new kind of fun, and one that can't be found at this restaurant.

Extremely impressed. Great Mexican food, killer salsa, and legit golden margaritas. Most restaurants in resort towns serve slop and just don't care because they've got a captive audience and nothing will affect their bottom line. This place is the exception. Don't be deceived by the fact that it is in a strip mall, the food is terrific. We came here with a party of eight and every single person came away crowing about their food. I had the Atlantic Burrito (shrimp and crab meat) and loved it; my wife had the enchiladas and was equally impressed. Bottom line, this is one of the best places I have eaten in Ocean City. If you're fed up with the fake 'Seafood' restaurants around here, try Tequila Mockingbird, it's legit. My only advice is to call ahead for reservations because it apparently gets slammed. There was a line out front on a Sunday of all days, and had we not had reservations, we would have had to wait over an hour. It's popular, call ahead.

Not the best place to go in eat in Ocean City, but if you want Mexican--you can't go wrong in going here. They're normally slammed daily past 6:00PM, so either come early or come later(8:30-9:00PM). Not the best chicken--is pretty dry. Overall an slightly above average mexican restaurant.

Where do I start? A margarita menu without prices Guacamole that was not "made to order" A snarky bartender that treated us like tourists. I will spend my money next time in Lewes at a much better and friendlier tequila bar Agave. KMA mocking tequila. OC needs better taste buds

The BEST salsa you will EVER have! l I have been coming here ever since I was a little girl and the food is always great and the staff is always beyond friendly. I always order the "El Gordo" chimichanga which is the best I've ever had. Whenever we are in OC, we always have to stop here!

We decided to try Tequila Mockingbird in Ocean City because a friend recommended it. The restaurant is located in a strip mall, but don't let the unassuming exterior fool you- TM features the best Mexican food in Ocean City. The interior is very festive and the booths are huge and very comfortable, and we were seated immediately, despite arriving at 5:30 on a Friday night. Our waiter was extremely friendly and helpful and provided us with extra bowls of chips because we were first-time customers. The menu was well organized and had very clever headings that referenced famous books and movies. There was also a wide selection of margaritas and signature drinks. We sampled a plate of nachos and it was one of the tastiest versions I've ever tried. I especially enjoyed the seasoned beef and the freshly prepared salsa (it was similar to pico de gallo). For my main course, I ordered the Southwestern burrito. Other family members tried the fish tacos and the beef chimichanga. All of our meals arrived quickly, and the ingredients tasted fresh. The portion sizes were also very generous. Our waiter checked on us more than once, and the owner greeted us on our way out the door. TM had very friendly staff and delicious food, and we will definitely be visiting again in the near future.

Love the margaritas and guacamole at tequila mockingbird! I always get the lime in de coconut margarita. Great Mexican food and big portions. There is always a long wait at night! If you are there for dinner, get there early or be prepared to wait. They do have benches outside for you to wait. I always have good service there and delicious food!

Excellent food, the waitress was super alert, and the atmosphere was great. Definitely worth going back. Affordable too.

Really wanted to try this place after hearing the fanfare. This place was okay for me. The food was presented very well and the service was great. I had the Atlantis burrito. The taste of the food overall was good but bland and required extra salt. Okay Mexican restaurant.

Delicious margaritas! Good for groups. Located in North Ocean City. I've been here twice, with a bachelorette party both times. It's pretty good. There's usually a wait - even if you have a reservation you might wait, so make one. Chips and salsa are good. Margaritas are on point. I had spinach and black bean enchiladas, but there really wasn't nearly enough spinach in them. Several other girls got taco salads in the huge shells. The fish tacos looked pretty tasty as well.

Went there with 5 friends while we where on vacation. It was great. The food, service and drinks were outstanding.... Shout out to Jenny our waitress. I had the chicken and steak fajitas. I had to take 2 Togo. Awesome place for Tequila drinkers like us.

  • Margaret P.

I love the hardshell chicken tacos. The restaurant name and all subsequent menu category names are corny, but the drinks and food are generally pretty good. Go for lunch if you like it quieter and less crowded. I think you need at least 8 people to make a reservation, and at night you're almost guaranteed a 45 minute wait.

    (4)
  • Jonathan R.

Great Mexican find in oc Reasonably priced cocktails at the bar as you can expect a wait for a table I had the blackened chicken fajitas which were excellent. The peppers and onions were cooked perfectly The other folks in my party enjoyed their dishes, beef fajita and seafood enchiladas. One thing that kept this from 5 stars They charge you for rice and refried beans with the fajitas At $17 I don't think it's necessary to upcharge for rice and refried beans.....service was excellent

  • Sally P.

Great margaritas, great guacamole, everything else - eh. We were really disappointed because we've always heard great things about this restaurant. I had the Pollo Platter - a chicken taco, enchilada, and quesadilla. The taco was dry and rather bland. The quesadilla was soggy on the bottom and kind of tasteless. When I tried to transfer the enchilada into a to go box, it fell apart. The rice was tasteless and the refried beans were even worse. My daughter had the chicken fajitas and said that they were dry. Might be a good place to go for drinks but I won't go back for dinner.

An OC favorite, we had to visit even while staying in Bethany Beach. Everything here is delish as always. The salsa is fresh with a kick. The guac is just as fresh but you may wish to kick it up by mixing some of the salsa in it. Queso is thick. No runny, weak stuff here. I had the spicy beef hard tacos with rice and beans and a side of their Diablo sauce. The spicy beef was juicy but drained. Sprinkling the Diablo sauce atop the lettuce and cheese completes a heat that's a slow burn. Enjoy! Others had the steak taco and Big Juan. Both were delightful but either be hungry or ready for left overs. Make this one a regular stop!

  • Kelsey W.

One of my favorite OC places. Things I love: their fresh salsa and chips (only first round is complimentary), the sunrise margartia, their mango habanero dressing, the queso, basically everything Things I hate: the typical 45 minute+ wait time to be seated

    (5)
  • Meghan G.

Nice restaurant, delicious chips. Salsa was more like Pico de gallo. Ordered the beef tacos and they were okay, I asked for no lettuce and tomato on it and when I got it there was tons of lettuce and tomatos. Not too pleased about that so I scraped it off.

  • Anne F.

We always make a stop for the margaritas, chips and fresh salsa, the queso is really amazing! Great family place, expect a wait during busy season. It's a great place for locals. The kids love the chicken fingers with fresh homemade ranch as well as the chicken or beef chimichangas. All fajitas are great, never disappointed! The fish bowl margarita is a great fun if your thirsty! There are several affordable margaritas to try! The TQ house on the rocks with patron, shaken is my favorite. Friendly good service!

I really like Tequila Mockingbird. Is it the best? No. Is it authentic Mexican? Nope, but it is very good. I've been going to Mockingbird year in and year out since it opened. If nothing else it is consistent which is really saying something in Ocean City. Yes it is a little pricey when compared to home, but you are in a resort-every place is pricey (see Anthony's-wonderful but c'mon!). So if you establish everything is a little more, this place actually measures as a value, and for your buck you get a lot of food. I usually go with the El Gordo Chimi which is packed with whatever I put in there on that given night. Lightly golden fried stuffed to the gills with meat and veggies. The Mrs. got a salad last time which was quite delicious. We also did the queso for an appetizer. All told it was about $35 without tip. Their margaritas are quite tasty. The trips I've been there, the service has always been pleasant and efficient. Granted I've only been to the bar side even when dining. The atmosphere is lively and a nice mix of locals and semi-locals during the offseason. Like every place in OC, during the summer months the wait can be long but I've always managed to slip in to the bar for carryout on those busy nights. I'm not wild about the rice...I can't believe I just typed that...but again the portions are huge so I never feel short changed on the food front. Between myself, the Mrs., and friends I've had or seen someone eat just about every item on the menu and I've never heard anyone complain. How many places in Ocean City can you say that about? Service:*** Always attentive but I've only dined in the bar Ambiance: **** Lively and fun, good place for locals and semi locals Food: *** Large Portions of tasty Tex-Mexish-really Americanized version of Mexican but solid and consistent. Value: *** Strong three stars here-I don't want to call the place a great value but relative to the choices, it is a very affordable place. Overall: *** There is a reason this place stays crowded even during the offseason and my family continues to come back year after year. Friendly, lively, and solid all the way around. It isn't a four star restaurant, but you aren't going to pay for that either.

On a recent mother/daughter trip to the OC we went to dinner at Tequila Mockingbird on the advice of a friend. Shout out to Karen! We arrived around 8pm and the place was packed! 40 minute wait said the Host or you can sit at the bar. We opted for the bar. Immediately we were served fresh pico de gallo and nachos. Yum! Both my daughter and I tried the red sangria. Super delicious! We ordered the Triple Threat for an appetizer which consisted of Queso/Guacamole/El Diablo Salsa (warning: sweat worthy and tongue tingling) and a basket of nachos. So good and I'm not lying when I tell you the salsa was Hottttt. It is made with Habaneros...need I say more? For dinner, I got the mahi tacos and my daughter got the Senor Murph. I have to say the mahi tacos were disappointing. I was looking for more flavor and they were kind of meh. My daughter enjoyed the Senor Murph which was a mix of grilled shrimp, chicken and mushrooms over cilantro rice. She said everything was fresh and cooked perfectly. So if you're sick of subs and pizza on the boardwalk give Tequila Mockingbird a try just order something other than the mahi tacos because everything else was on point.

The food is great. I always order "The Atlantis" seafood burrito containing crab and shrimp. Their Queso is very good too, and I can't get enough of their chips and salsa. However, they are not equipped for large parties .... I would keep the group to 8 or less. Anything larger seems to throw them a curve ball.

  • Brent K.

Nice vibe- good fish tacos - get mahi - third time here - like it. Margaritas were nice :)

  • Brandi P.

Let's keep it simple, since Tequila is a simple thing... Pro's: Margharita Flavors on point (but be careful of the brain freeze, its gnarly), The "fishbowl", burrito's, fresh salsa, friendly staff, clean bathrooms. Con's: Food is of poor quality, the spicy salsa (that we paid extra for) is NOT spicy, expensive, rather crowded. To sum it up: if you're going in to have a drink at the bar and the burrito that is topped with creamed corn.. you are in for a treat! Other than that, if you are a "die-hard" Mexican food fan, I would suggest eating somewhere else.

The cats outta the bag on this place and here I am contributing to its social media promotion. This place is really good but busy. Margaritas are the staple drink hence the name but the bar is flowing with anything you want. Food is really good. Really good! Bayside on 127-128th streets.

Must hit spot in OC. Great food & service! The complimentary chips and salsa were delicious. We got the nacho supreme as an appetizer and that is a meal in itself. It was freaking huge & very very good! For a drink I had the 42 oz fishbowl of "Mr Hooker & Famous Peach Fuzzy Margarita" OMG this is a must drink plus you keep the fishbowl. We will be back again to eat here.

  • Gail V.

Worst meal in a long time. Guacamole tasted like it came out of plastic tub salsa just old tomatoes and onions. No taste. Then the main meal was tasteless and cheap tasting. Won't go back. Even the margarita had little flavor....

  • Iceboxer B.

Best margaritas in town. Fajitas were great. Casadillas app was as good as my wife's homemade. Went 2 nights this week. Can't wait until next years vacation to come back. Servers were very attentive and tequila savvy. Blue Dog and Silver margaritas were our favorites!

  • Teresa B.

Chips and salsa es muy bueno! And it's as good as it gets for Mexican American fare in Ocean City, MD. I'm talking about shredded cheddar as opposed to cotija. Seasoned crumbled ground beef, rather than bisteca. So it's not authentic Mexican, but their food goes good with tequila and margaritas!

    (3)
  • Katherine C.

Blah service, food I could've made better at home, which was also too pricey, and carry out bag did not provide napkins or utensils. And the decor was confusing; I couldn't tell if the place was trying to be a Chuck E Cheese or an old tequila bar.

    (2)
  • C S.

Dirty place, it has the sour smell of tables wiped with filthy rags. Tacos were below average with very wet lettuce. They only have Cholula and Tabasco for hot sauce. Staff was nice enough, not worth the effort or money to eat here. Two stars instead of one for the cold beer.

    (2)
  • Katie S.

Drinks - good. Food - terrible! My husband's "BBQ Shrimp Burrito" tasted like ketchup with weak little shrimp swimming around in it. My chopped pork tacos were so bland I didn't eat more than 3 bites. Won't be going back, there is better mexican elsewhere.

  • Amber R.

Was recommended to this place as I am a Mexican food addict!! Disappointed. Queso my all time fav thing tasted "out of the jar". As soon as I got my food I could tell this was not a true Mexican restaurant. I asked the bar tender and he said the owners were not Spanish, even though I could tell that from the food. Not authentic, tasted salty and processed. I had the beef and chicken enchilada combo. Beans were not good and rice was not Mexican rice :( won't be coming back unfortunately and I was so excited all week to give this place a try. Atmosphere was nice.

  • Jennifer H.

Chips and salsa were DELICIOUS! However, stay away from their blackberry margarita. It tasted like a bucket of melted lollipops with an additional 10 pounds of sugar and raspberry flavored syrup. Service was a bit hit or miss. Can't comment on food off the menu since the fishbowl size overpriced margarita destroyed further interest in anything there. I might give this place another shot when I'm in OC.

  • Michael A.

It was ok but not great. We had a party of nine so a forty minute wait. When we finally got in the waitress immediately took our drink order. She was polite but not friendly and seemed rushed. It took us twenty minutes to get her back to take or God order. We asked three times as she died past our table. Each time it was"just a minute". Meanwhile she was attacking glasses or chatting with the cashier. The food was good. All of the frozen margaritas weren't blended long enough. Big pebbles of ice and impossible to drink with a straw.

Not bad for a touristy place to eat. Service fast food tasty portions quite enough prices reasonable. Decor a little cheesy but what the heck you are on vacation.

I had the black bean and shrimp soup. It was delicious and filling. Shared the queso cheese dip and it was delicious. We got beef and chicken tacos which were wonderful and tasty. We had to walk the 2 miles back to the condo because we were so stuffed. I highly recommend it.

Huge selection of Tequila and flavors of Margaritas the food is quite good, the Mahi Mahi tacos are excellent

    (4)
  • Neal F.

Our food was mediocre at best and terrible at worst. The chips are out of a bag (expected) and the salsa and guac have very little flavor. The steak in the steak fajitas was essentially chewy air - NO flavor at all. For $16.99, it'd be nice if they had seasoned the meat and used a better quality. Chicken fajitas were modestly better. My margarita on the rocks was decent but my girlfriend ordered hers frozen which was a mistake. A layer of frothy ice on the top and a layer of non frozen liquid underneath. If you absolutely MUST have Mexican, this place seems to handle the basics, but you'd be better served elsewhere.

    (2)
  • Irving T.

We had carne asana tacos, which were very good. The Beef El Gordo is a must have! I never get need at Mexican restaurants. My wife ordered it and it took her meal from her! Also the Golden Nugget margarita is a must have! The service was good. The waiter came around at the right time and was ready with the bill as soon as we were done. I had to burst her bubble and order another Golden Nugget margarita though lol. It's definitely a place I would recommend and come back to when I'm in town.

  • Courtney D.

Holy fishbowls!!! Stopped in here after dinner with a bachelorette party and ordered the $20 fishbowl filled with who-knows-what?! It was blue. And had tequila. And I had a headache the next day. Clever name... took me much longer than it should have to figure out the play on words (whoops).

Ooh, that queso dip, I just can't stop thinking about it. Yes, the rest of the food was good, but the queso was divine. I mean, literally, divine. Like, I'm pretty sure the Tequila Mockingbird queso has been beatified by the Roman Catholic church and you can actually pray to it. It has its own special rosary and that rosary is made out of tortilla chips that you dip into the queso as you go through the prayers. People think the new pope is responsible for the church's sudden boost in popularity, but look a little more closely and you will see, it's the Tequila Mockingbird queso.

Fantastic! Tequila Mockingbird really hit the spot. While on vacation I had an intense craving for some Mexican food and they really delivered. It was a bit busy when my friend and I arrived so we ended up going to the back bar for our meal. It was a pretty good decision. The bartender was pretty laid back and fixed me a very tasty margarita. It was so tasty I ordered a second. The free chips and dip were a nice break from what I'm used to, as their dip was all chunk, barely any liquid. I ordered a chicken burrito which came smothered in cheese and saucy goodness, with sides of rice and refried beans. Absolutely delicious. The portion was huge and really satisfying. I was extremely pleased with my meal.

Love love love. This is always our first stop when we start our oc vacation. Nothing like great margaritas and the fajitas special after a long drive on a work day. The service is fast and the food is fresh and you get a good amount of food for the price. My only request would be to lighten up on the onion in the salsa, but I'll still enjoy it no matter what.

  • John M.

The Mock you can either love it or leave it and most of staff could care less if you did. Pro is good food and always consistent. Service is so so, no leadership, team work or smiling faces. A "hello" "good bye" or " I will be right with you" would go a long way with customers. I have even seen tables seated and walk out because no one would acknowledge them at all after 10 or 15 minutes sitting there. And OMG don't get the server "shaggy" looks like he rolled out of bed and came to work. Like I said good food and just could have nicer vibe otherwise I would give it 5 stars.

Great food. Love the chips and salsa. The margaritas are pretty outstanding as well. Must hit spot when in Ocean City.

This place is just downright not good. Cheese dip tastes like velveeta, rice is weirdest I've ever seen. Just not a fan and I've never been anywhere that charged for extra chips and salsa. I'll be trying Mothers up the road next and the bar has not been set very high.

I've been to Tequila Mockingbird quite a few times and each time is more disappointing than the last. Last week, I gave it another try in hopes for a better experience but it disappointed again so I am officially giving up. The food is bland but expensive for poor quality Mexican food. I've tried, the tacos and fajitas and neither were of good quality. The guacamole is the only thing worth ordering but it is $9 for a small order which seems expensive for a non-tableside made guac. The margaritas and specialty drinks are good too. In other words, go for the drinks and guac and eat your meal somewhere else. More frustrating than the poor quality food is the staff. The old and heavy man that takes names at the doors is the rudest host I have ever met. He yelled at me because I asked if bar seating was self-serve. Since he is the owner, it is no wonder the staff and bartenders are so rude to customers. I always tip 20% and this was no exception but our server didn't deserve it. It was a chore for her to get our drinks or tell us about the specials. There is a reason the average is 3 stars. Skip Tequila Mockingbird and go to La Hacienda instead.

If you want decent Mexican food in OC and/or excellent margaritas, this is your place. Some tips: 1) This restaurant is extremely popular -- head out early or expect a long wait in-season. 2) I love their salsa. It's fresh cut and not blenderized, so it's really more of a pico de gallo style. I think it's great, but it's very mild and some folks seem to not enjoy it as much as I do. 3) The rice and beans are simple, like any Mexican restaurant. The rice is flavored with cilantro. I love it, but for you cilantro-haters out there, look out! 4) The prices are good, especially for OC 5) Excellent decor, excellent service. 6) I'm a fan, but I would not drive all the way out here from Salisbury just to go here. It's a great place to go if we're already in OC and want a casual, but reasonably priced meal.

This place has great food! Very authentic. I got the chicken enchiladas, yum! Also the queso was good as were the chips and salsa. The staff were friendly and relaxed and our waitress was very attentive even though her section was completely full. The main reason this gets five stars: the Mockingbird Margarita. Get it, drink it, be happy.

Delicious! Huge fan of the salsa, margaritas, sangria, and rocko tacos. My fiance always gets the fajitas (very generous portion), which he seems to love. Only complaint is the long wait times (they are popular) and service could be a tad bit more attentive (but again they are usually very busy).

A-maz-ing frozen black raspberry margarita! Really good golfers delight as well ( sweat tea vodka with lemonade ) Chips and salsa was good. Fresh ingredients. Really friendly staff. Get here early cause u will wait if u don't! Def will return for more than drinks and chips :)

Stopped here for lunch today. The little lady and I had margaritas that were the best I ever had here in O.C. I also enjoyed the Rocko Tacos which is fried rockfish served with chipotle tartar sauce. Probably will return when next I Jones for some Mexican food .

I've been visiting this place annually for ten years now and I have to say, this is the most disappointed I've been. I always order the same dish: the Atlantis burrito. In the past, this burrito was always jam packed with shrimp and lots of lump crab meat. Well, it was lacking in both. It's a shame because I always looked forward to this place. Will have to think twice next time.......

We really enjoyed this place. The salsa was fantastic! My margarita was great. My husband and daughter got beef enchiladas which they liked very much. I got 2 soft grilled steak tacos which were also very good. We will definitely be returning to Tequila Mockingbird!

Excellent queso dip as a starter. I'm not huge on Mexican food, but the food is pretty good. I have friends that go there strictly for Mexican and they love it. For non-mexican food lovers they have a large selection.

While in Ocean City during Bike Week 2013, we decided to stop by Tequila Mockingbird because we were craving Mexican food and frozen margaritas. The food (Slimi Chimi and Beef Tacos) and drinks (Pomegranate and Grand Marnier frozen margaritas) were as good as expected. The service was quick and responsive, too. Yet, it was what happened after-- well after-- my meal that left me so appreciative to Tequila Mockingbird and its staff. Following our meal and drinks, we went to several other bars before returning home, 60 streets south. Yet, as I went to unlock the door, I realized my key was missing. After a few moments of panic, I called all the businesses we had previously enjoyed that night, but no one found my key. Eventually, we retraced our steps and found ourselves back at TM, though it was closed for the evening. Two bartenders and another man-- presumably the manager-- let us in and heard our story. They said they searched around the restaurant and bar, but couldn't find any key that matched my description. I was devastated. As we left the restaurant and walked away, we heard the manager yell, "Is it on a lanyard?" Of course, my missing key was by itself-- yes, I'm an idiot for carrying it sans keychain-- so I figured the key he must have found was not mine. I replied accordingly and he held up the key, without a lanyard. It matched the vague description I had given over the phone and I quickly ran back to check it out. The manager noted someone must have found the key on the ground and left it at the front, where he double-checked upon our exit. After a nerve-wracking bus ride back to our condo, I slid the key into the knob and-- low and behold-- it was a match. Because of the restaurant's wonderful customer service, I will never forget Tequila Mockingbird and will proceed to recommend it to friends and family.

Best. Place. Ever. I ate there when they first opened their doors and continue to make it back there whenever I can. The food is always delicious (try the Big Juan!), the salsa is fantastic (it's pico de gallo) and the staff is always friendly and helpful. If you have not eaten here, you are truly missing out.

We always come here on vacation in OC. Hints.... Golden Margarita, Enchiladas, and get there early. Friendly service every time we come.

Do not get the chicken fajitas. You barely get enough meat for one tortilla

first visit on recommendation from a neighbor. casual, fun place. seems like more of a place for "locals" instead of "tourists", but that's not a bad thing from my view. service was solid and our guy had a great sense of humor. food was good, big portions for the price, definitely get your bang for the buck here.

This past New Years Day my boyfriend and I were trying to decide where we wanted to nurse our hangovers. Our options were slim, considering that many of the restaurants that hadn't already closed for the season had closed for the holiday. After agreeing that Mexican food would sooth our cravings, we were so relieved to find out that Tequila Mockingbird was open for business. The main attraction for me here is the service. Everyone is so friendly, especially our waitress. Or maybe they just felt sorry for me because I looked so run over from the festivities of the night before! The food is typical Mexican fare. My veggie enchiladas were very good, and came served with the typical rice and refried beans. Although I don't like fried fish in my fish tacos, which my boyfriend ordered, they were delicious and I would definitely order them myself during my next visit. The nachos were so-so, some of the cheese wasn't melted, so I would probably just stick with the complimentary chips and salsa fresca that they bring to your table when you are seated. Prices were decent. I'd definitely visit again. It would be fun to grab some drinks and food here and sit at the bar during a football game!

OK, first of all... this place boasts "the best Mexican food on the East Coast". HA! Maybe on the east cost of the small block of the shopping center in which it is located. I've had better Mexican at chain restaurants. Hell, I've had better Mexican at Chipotle. Seriously, huge disappointment. I didn't get to drink because I'm pregnant, maybe if I had I would have been more jolly and numb to the lack of everything else. P.S. Play Mexican tunes at a Mexican joint - not Kelly Clarkson. Thanks.

It is good Mexican fare. The guacamole is solid, the rocko tacos (Rockfish tacos) are amazing. The service is super friendly (so much so that I imagine the management is fun to work for). I really like the art work on the walls which is reflected in the t-shirts they sell. My 10 year old son didn't believe that there were worms at the bottom of Tequila bottles and the bar tender was kind enough to show him that not only were there worms, one bottle housed a scorpion. Hmmmm. Long gone are those days for me. Someone mentioned there was another Mexican restaurant down the street that charged more and had lower quality food. Do yourself a favor, if you're looking for good eats, nice service and a cool souvenir t-shirt to take home, stop in.

Nothing fancy about this place, reminds me of the typical Mexican type of restaurant. Not very clean but clean enough you don't feel like you're going to catch something. But just like most Mexican places, the food makes up for the lack of ambiance. Good food, decent prices and not bad place to take kids.

So let me just start off my saying that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Tequila Mockingbird. It's within walking distance of our beach house and I go there quite often when I'm visiting the beach. I have two staples that I always get here. They are 1) Margaritas and 2) Buffalo Chicken Tortilla Pizza Margaritas. What can I say except they are AMAZING. Even if you don't like Tequilla or Margaritas - you should at least try one here. They are sweet - just a warning. And they are strong - just another warning. They HIT you before you know it - and that is one of the things I love about them! They have many kinds but I prefer the good ole House Rita on the rocks, no salt. Buffalo Chicken Tortilla Pizza. Yum. It's a pure, cheesey, spicy, yummy slice of heaven. Some think it's too spicy - I'm not even a big spice fan and I don't think it is. It's pretty rich and if you have a coronary issue - you may want to think twice... then again I think it's worth the risk! Aside from the above items, their salsa is oh-so-fresh andt their chips tasty. Also, while I usually only order the items above - I have had their other food and I find it to be some of my favorite mexican fare. Give them a try!

Tequila Mockingbird. Very creative name for a texmex eatery. Unfortunately, the creativity ends there. I accompanied three other people for a Thurs night meal. It was Fajita Night - most of the Fajita choices were $10-12 bucks. The three other people that were with me picked the fajitas. Chicken, steak, and shrimp fajitas were ordered. Some of the comments: stingy on the meat but plentiful onions, virtually no perceptible seasonings on the grilled meats (no spice, no lime, etc), steak was tough & chewy. I ordered the Mahi Tacos. Underwhelming. My first bite had an odd fishy taste (as opposed to an expected yummy fish taste). Subsequent mouthfuls were better tasting. I suspect that first bite was fish that "seen fresher days," if you know what I mean! But overall, the tacos were bland with the most prominent flavor being the orange cheddar cheese topping. There was a green cilantro sauce to use as a condiment but I found it had a mayonnaise'y taste - for me it didn't work with the tacos. The rice on the side was pretty good. The refried beans were terrible - a dry, pasty, out-of-a-can mass in a small plastic cup. I did not finish the beans. The complimentary chips and salsa were fine. Tasted fresh. Not particularly spicy. I'm being generous with the two stars. Others at my table were less critical than me and somewhat liked their food. Not me. Tequila Mockingbird is not someplace I'd choose to visit again.

Love this place. I mean, it's nothing earth-shattering or anything, but they do what they do really well. As you'd expect, they have a killer assortment of tequilas behind the bar, from Cuervo to boutique brands, and their margaritas are done right. The food is solid as well, with huge portions. Homemade guacamole is always fresh and dee-lish, although we add a little hot sauce for extra kick. Burritos are huge, and range from traditional tex-mex to funky barbecue options. Likewise, tacos are good too. The only real drawback to TM is that it's not that big, so dinner waits are common unless you go early. The bar area is kinda small too, so your best bet is to grab a cocktail and wait outside. The hostess will find you. Overall, this is a consistent, laid-back place that does does good work with tex-mex food and cocktails, at a pretty fair price. It's one of a few go-tos that we hit when we're downy ocean, hon.

The "Oh My Popeye" was very good - inventive American-Mexican food. One of us had the "Popeye and Olive Oil Combo" - spinach and mushrooms mixed with the black beans was fantastic. I had the Rocko Tacos (fried rock fish) served with chipotle tarter sauce. The rice is green with cilantro - different, nice. It's a big place, so the wait isn't long. The service is fast - not a place to savor a meal. Fairly cheap. Good place to take kids or a big group

I've only been once but I'm not anxious to return! Got a top shelf margarita and felt so guilty that they wasted premium tequila in such a disappointing dyed green overpriced drink. Salsa wasn't salsa - it was pico de gallo. Guacamole was good! Food was bland and all looked the same even though everyone ordered something different. Lame!

My favorite Mexican. Period. The margaritas are hit or miss (ask for less sour mix) but to me, that isn't a show stopper. The burritos are amazing, the guac is awesome, and I highly recommend the El Toro platter.

4.5 stars really this place is fantastic for drinks and apps ( our party didn't eat dinner on this visit as we had other reservations) Maria - the bartender is fantastic, observant and suggested other great local spots. We'll be here again and again!

3.5 stars, rounded up because its the best Mexican I've found in OC. The seafood enchiladas were good, if not a little too creamy for my taste.

I was here on a Friday afternoon for lunch in the off season and was very pleasantly suprised. This place is divided in two with bar on one side and restaurant on the other. The decor was different and a bit muted compared to many other Mexican joints I've been but honestly I go to most places for the food not whats hanging on the wall. I got the El Toro combo and was pleased with everything that it included. The pre meal salsa was excellent. Service was friendly and the price was reasonable expecially by OC standards. They had a huge selection of margaritas however it was early so I did not indulge though they looked rather tempting. Now very few folks were here based on time of day and time of year but I'll definitely try again when things pick up.

Chips are light. Salsa fresh with bits of cilantro to give it that 'kick up' taste from regular salsa. Very fresh and tasty. Bold. If you have issues with onions you might want to try the El Diablo salsa. Heavier, thicker, spicier, but no onions.

This Gringo-cooked Mexican place isn't bad at all, especially considering the area. Drinks are good, reasonably priced. I like their fajitas, guacamole is pretty good, all in all solid food and decent service. Waits can be the only problem, but otherwise if you want to go to a place in Ocean City that won't suck, then give it a shot. Just don't expect authentic Mexican food

Too much sour mix...tone it down! margaritas aren't known for their sour mix, but for the TEQUILA!!!! I could barely taste any... :( and the food was just ok...kinda flavorless, couldn't even figure out what i was eating in my veggie burrito...pretty disappointed since the name alone made me think it would be super awesome...bummed...

I LOVE this place. Its my go-to mexican restaurant when I am down in OC. Their salsa and guac is so fresh - and we love to mix it with the queso. Mmmmm...queso! Their food is great - large portions and a great variety of foods. You can ask them to knock it up a notch to make it really spicy and they definitely cater to kids. Its great for big groups and the staff is really friendly and service-oriented. I crave this place when I'm at home - you can always count on getting great mexican food here.

I wasn't sure what to expect, after reading all the reviews. My dad wanted to come here and I worried it would be too loud and bar like for him to hear. First, the bar is on one side and the large family friendly fun restaurant is on the other side. On a Monday night there was a wait, but not bad 15-20 minutes. Started off with a fresh, delicious salsa, I've lived in Latin America, yes this is Tex Mex food but that was as good as it gets, with just the right amount of heat, we asked for more. Parents shared Black Bean soup, minus shrimp (allergies) they practically licked the bowl. Taco Salad, was a bit different flat shell and good spices. I had the Triple, shrimp quesadilla, Popeye Enchilada and Chicken hard taco. Everything had distinct tastes and was very fresh. Interestingly, I typically skip rice, but theirs was lightly flavored with a spice I couldn't identify, delicious and re-fried beans had great flavor too. My dad had chicken three ways, and both of us brought home our leftovers to enjoy today. Son stuck with chicken fingers, his were gone. From the creative name to the great play on words all over the menu, this was a refreshing surprise. Oh and I forgot, the basic house margarita was yummy, so good I had a second. And they didn't break the bank, four of us, plus two drinks, 90$. I would definitely go back and I would recommend it to all. We aren't in Austin or Taos, but good food is important to me, and this was good!

Being picky about Mexican cuisine I rate this ok for food but the variety of tequila is wild. From the inexpensive to the very expensive ($80.00 a shot) it's there. Worth a look.

Maybe this place is just known for tequila because the food was below average. The portions are big but the taste isn't quite there. You will have a better time going to Chipotle. I'm a Mexican food lover so I take my Mexican food very seriously.

This place is one of my favorites in Ocean City. Margaritas are amazing. I've had the elite and the godfather, both were awesome. Food was great. Service is slow and its noisy.

Mediocre food. Decent margaritas. I had to dump hot sauce on the Mahi Mahi tacos to get any kind of bite. Take it or leave it. There are more interesting Mexican places to eat. Overall, I thought overpriced for the quality.

On a recent stop at Tequila Mockingbird's for dinner we discovered that it was just average at best. It seems to have turned into the Mexican Restaurant next door so to speak. Of course the salsa and chips were good but our meal could have been alot better. The service however was very good.

Bland food and a huge disappointment. How can someone screw up salsa? The only thing nice about the meal was the atmosphere. Staff was average. This may qualify for the worst mexican food I've ever had. Don't waste your money or time.

This place is way overrated. Not even good TexMex. Granted there are not many options in OC since there is not even a chipotle in town. The only good thing I can say about this place is they have some cool yet overpriced tshirts. Even their drinks are not that strong.

Delicious margaritas, tasty Mexican food and great service. Came here last weekend for dinner with two friends. We got there just in time for one happy hour drink. The queso was good, a little on the salty side. I got a combo with Spinach and mushroom quesidillas and enchiladas and one hard bean taco. Everything was so delicious! I even had enough to take home for lunch the next day. My friends also really enjoyed their food. It's definitely a family style restaurant, and there's not outside seating unfortunately. The food and drinks make up for it though. Every time I come to Ocean city and I will definitely be back!

    Rock fish tacos are awesome!

  • Jeanne W.

Totally overrated. My drink was weak. I ordered rocko tacos and was very disappointed. They were tasteless and the fish was fried. My daughter's spicy chicken salad was actually a wrap of mostly sour cream. The salsa was just whacked up vegies and also tasteless. I won't be going back.

Wow, the best thing about this restaurant was the chips and salsa. The margaritas were fantastic as well. As far as food goes, if you like to feel heartburn start before you have left the restaurant, this is your place. Cheese enchiladas? Spicy red sauce that no amount of sour cream can compensate for. The toro platter, even hotter, as the whole meal is from the same beef mix with onions and peppers. Neither of us could finish the meal. Beans and rice with the platter? Yes, but i think the cooks know how gross the beans are since they put them in a to go cup, as if to separate the dried out bean paste from the rest of the food as punushment. The rice was way over cooked but strangely, it had a good flavor. Service was excellent, but the seating is atrocious, good luck if there is only two of you. This place will bump you to seat parties of 4, as I watched people who arrived 20 minutes after I did get seated ahead of me at the whim of the front host. I would go back for drinks and chips, or if I was taking someone out to lunch I did not like. Bring antacid.........

  • C K.

We had waited some time to get a seat. We had some toddlers in our party. I was hoping for some chips but that did not happen. When you are seated you get chips and salsa. If you want more, they will charge you. I ordered the Big Juan burrito and it was good. The portions were not huge but adequate. Unfortunately our waitress was either VERY tired or hung over. When she realized we did not want alcohol, she did not come back to the table. She was rolling silverware. Overall, I liked the food and the price was whatever. You are at the shore so it is all expensive. I would go back with a smaller party as we had 7 in ours and that slowed things from being seated to eating.

I went to this place last night based on 2 of my friends raving about it. Obviously, they've not had decent Mexican food before. First, we ordered 2 pina coladas, one of them was virgin. I took a sip of mine and wondered if my teenage daughter got the one with the rum, couldn't taste any of it. Then, the food came. $17 for fajitas and if you want beans and rice, it was an extra $4 or so. I ordered a chimichanga, the chicken tasted like it was old leftover chicken. $70 later and we were really very disappointed. Oh, and after we finished eating, we waited almost 20 minutes for the check.

Good Mexican food. Salsa tastes very fresh as well as everything else. I believe they are open year round. They can have long lines in Summer evenings, so you may want to go early or late. Definitely worth checking out if you are looking for Mexican in OC.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
